Allah ﷻ says :
وَإِذۡ جَعَلۡنَا ٱلۡبَيۡتَ مَثَابَةٗ لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَمۡنٗا
And mention when We made the Ka’aba a place for seeking refuge and safety for people.
~Surah al-Baqarah 2:125
In this article, we will see from Sunni sources that Imam Ali a.s was born inside the Ka’aba :
1) Allamah Ibn al-Maghazili al-Maliki mentioned :
عن ﻣﻮﺳﻰ ﺑﻦ ﺟﻌﻔﺮ، ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻴﻪ، ﻋﻦ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻋﻠﻲ، ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻴﻪ ﻋﻠﻲ ﺑﻦ اﻟﺤﺴﻴﻦ، ﻗﺎﻝ: ﻛﻨﺖ ﺟﺎﻟﺴﺎ ﻣﻊ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻭﻧﺤﻦ ﺯاﺋﺮﻭﻥ ﻗﺒﺮ ﺟﺪﻧﺎ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ اﻟﺴﻼﻡ، ﻭﻫﻨﺎﻙ ﻧﺴﻮاﻥ ﻛﺜﻴﺮﺓ، ﺇﺫ ﺃﻗﺒﻠﺖ اﻣﺮﺃﺓ ﻣﻨﻬﻦ ﻓﻘﻠﺖ ﻟﻬﺎ: ﻣﻦ ﺃﻧﺖ ﻳﺮﺣﻤﻚ اﻟﻠﻪ؟ ﻗﺎﻟﺖ: ﺃﻧﺎ ﺯﻳﺪﺓ ﺑﻨﺖ ﻗﺮﻳﺒﺔ ﺑﻦ اﻟﻌﺠﻼﻥ ﻣﻦ ﺑﻨﻲ ﺳﺎﻋﺪﺓ. ﻓﻘﻠﺖ ﻟﻬﺎ: ﻓﻬﻞ ﻋﻨﺪﻙ ﺷﻴﺌﺎ ﺗﺤﺪﺛﻴﻨﺎ؟ ﻓﻘﺎﻟﺖ: ﺇﻱ ﻭاﻟﻠﻪ ﺣﺪﺛﺘﻨﻲ ﺃﻣﻲ ﺃﻡ اﻟﻌﺎﺭﺓ ﺑﻨﺖ ﻋﺒﺎﺩﺓ ﺑﻦ ﻧﻀﻠﺔ ﺑﻦ ﻣﺎﻟﻚ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺠﻼﻥ اﻟﺴﺎﻋﺪﻱ .. ﺃﻧﻬﺎ ﻛﺎﻧﺖ ﺫاﺕ ﻳﻮﻡ ﻓﻲ ﻧﺴﺎء ﻣﻦ اﻟﻌﺮﺏ ﺇﺫ ﺃﻗﺒﻞ ﺃﺑﻮ ﻃﺎﻟﺐ ﻛﺌﻴﺒﺎ ﺣﺰﻳﻨﺎ، ﻓﻘﻠﺖ ﻟﻪ: ﻣﺎ ﺷﺄﻧﻚ ﻳﺎ ﺃﺑﺎ ﻃﺎﻟﺐ؟ ﻗﺎﻝ: ﺇﻥ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ ﺑﻨﺖ ﺃﺳﺪ ﻓﻲ ﺷﺪﺓ اﻟﻤﺨﺎﺽ، ﺛﻢ ﻭﺿﻊ ﻳﺪﻳﻪ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻭﺟﻬﻪ. ﻓﺒﻴﻨﺎ ﻫﻮ ﻛﺬﻟﻚ، ﺇﺫ ﺃﻗﺒﻞ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﻓﻘﺎﻝ ﻟﻪ: ((ﻣﺎ ﺷﺄﻧﻚ ﻳﺎ ﻋﻢ؟)) ﻓﻘﺎﻝ: ﺇﻥ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ ﺑﻨﺖ ﺃﺳﺪ ﺗﺸﺘﻜﻲ اﻟﻤﺨﺎﺽ، ﻓﺄﺧﺬ ﺑﻴﺪﻩ ﻭﺟﺎء ﻭﻫﻲ ﻣﻌﻪ ﻓﺠﺎء ﺑﻬﺎ ﺇﻟﻰ اﻟﻜﻌﺒﺔ ﻓﺄﺟﻠﺴﻬﺎ ﻓﻲ اﻟﻜﻌﺒﺔ، ﺛﻢ ﻗﺎﻝ: ((اﺟﻠﺴﻲ ﻋﻠﻰ اﺳﻢ اﻟﻠﻪ!)) ﻗﺎﻝ: ﻓﻄﻠﻘﺖ ﻃﻠﻘﺔ ﻓﻮﻟﺪﺕ ﻏﻼﻣﺎ ﻣﺴﺮﻭﺭا، ﻧﻈﻴﻔﺎ، ﻣﻨﻈﻔﺎ ﻟﻢ ﺃﺭ ﻛﺤﺴﻦ ﻭﺟﻬﻪ، ﻓﺴﻤﺎﻩ ﺃﺑﻮ ﻃﺎﻟﺐ ﻋﻠﻴﺎ ﻭﺣﻤﻠﻪ اﻟﻨﺒﻲ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﺣﺘﻰ ﺃﺩاﻩ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻣﻨﺰﻟﻬﺎ
Musa al-Kadhim narrated from Ja’far al-Sadiq who narrated from Muhammad al-Baqir who narrated from Zayn al-Abideen who said :
I was with my father (Imam al-Husayn) at the grave of my grandfather (Imam Ali) and a women come to us and said my mother narrated to me that :
One day, Abu Talib was tensed, I asked him ‘what’s the matter?’ He replied ‘Fatimah Bint Asad is in severe labor pain.’ Then Muhammad ﷺ came and asked ‘What’s the matter O Uncle?’ Abu Talib replied the same.
Then Muhammad ﷺ took Fatimah Bint Asad to the Ka’aba and made her enter it and said ‘Sit in the name of Allah’ Then she gave birth to a content, clean and pure boy, I had never seen a handsome face than his. Abu Talib named him Ali and The Prophet ﷺ carried him to her house.

• Allamah Ibn al-Maghizali also mentioned in the introduction of the book :
ﻓﺠﻤﻌﺖ ﻓﻲ ﻓﻀﺎﺋﻠﻬﻢ ﻣﺎ اﻧﺘﻬﺖ ﺇﻟﻴﻪ ﻣﻌﺮﻓﺘﻲ، ﻭﺑﻠﻐﻪ ﺟﻬﺪﻱ ﻭﻃﺎﻗﺘﻲ، ﻣﻤﺎ ﺃﻧﺰﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ ﻓﻴﻬﻢ ﻣﻦ اﻵﻳﺎﺕ ﻓﻲ اﻟﺴﻮﺭاﺕ، ﻭﻣﺎ ﺟﺮﻯ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻟﻔﻆ اﻟﺮﺳﻮﻝ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺪﻻﻻﺕ، ﻭﻣﺎ ﻇﻬﺮ ﻣﻨﻬﻢ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻤﻌﺠﺰاﺕ، ﻣﺎ ﻻ ﻳﻤﻜﻦ اﻟﻤﻨﺼﻒ ﺑﻌﻘﻠﻪ ﺇﻧﻜﺎﺭﻩ
I have collected in this book the Fadhail of the Ahlul Bait of what was well known to me, about what Allah ﷻ revealed about them in the Qur’an and what was reported from the words of Rasul-Allah ﷺ and their apparent miracles, what a FAIR-MINDED person cannot deny.

2) Imam al-Haakim mentioned :
ﻓﻘﺪ ﺗﻮاﺗﺮﺕ اﻷﺧﺒﺎﺭ ﺃﻥ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ ﺑﻨﺖ ﺃﺳﺪ ﻭﻟﺪﺕ ﺃﻣﻴﺮ اﻟﻤﺆﻣﻨﻴﻦ ﻋﻠﻲ ﺑﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻃﺎﻟﺐ ﻛﺮﻡ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻭﺟﻬﻪ ﻓﻲ ﺟﻮﻑ اﻟﻜﻌﺒﺔ
And it is known from multiple reports (Tawattur) that Fatimah bint Asad gave birth to Emir al-Mu’meenin Ali may Allah honor his face inside the Ka’aba.

3) Allamah Muhammad Ibn Ishaq al-Fakihi (d.272 H) wrote :
ﻭﺃﻭﻝ ﻣﻦ ﻭﻟﺪ ﻓﻲ اﻝﻛﻌﺒﺔ ﻣﻦ ﺑﻨﻲ ﻫﺎﺷﻢ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻤﻬﺎﺟﺮﻳﻦ: ﻋﻠﻲ ﺑﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻃﺎﻟﺐ
The first from the Bani Hashim & the Muhajireen to born inside the Ka’aba was Ali Ibn Abi Talib.
~Akhbar Makkah vol 3:198
4) Allamah al-Ma’soodi wrote :
ذكر خلافة أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب…وكان مولده في الكعبة
The mention of the Caliphate of Emir al-Mu’meenin Ali Ibn Abi Talib, He was born inside the Ka’aba.
~Murooj al-Dhahb vol 2:358
5) Allamah Sibt Ibn al-Jawzi wrote :
قال عكرمة إنّ فاطمة بنت أسد كانت تطوف بالبيت و هي حامل بعليّ عليه السّلام، فضربها الطّلق، ففتح لها باب الكعبة، فدخلت فوضعته فيها
Ikrimah The Mawla of Ibne Abbas said : Fatimah Bint Asad was doing Tawaf while Imam Ali was in her womb, she got labor pain and the door of Ka’aba opened, so she entered in it and Imam was born there.
~Tadhkirat al-Khawwas vol 1:155
6) Allamah Abu Bakr al-Jurjani wrote :
وروي أنّ فاطمة الكبرى وضعت عليّا في جوف الكعبة،
It is narrated that Fatimah Bint Asad gave birth to Ali inside the Ka’aba.
~Darj al-Durar fee Tafseer al-Ayy’ wa al-Suvar vol 2:482
7) Hafidh Ibn al-Sabbagh al-Maliki wrote :
وُلِدَ عليٌّ بمكة المشرّفة بداخل البيت الحرام
Ali was born in Makkah, inside the sacred house.

8) Muhadith Shah Wali-Allah Dehlvi wrote :
ومن مناقب علي بن أبي طالب التي ظهرت حين ولادته أنه ولد في جوف الكعبة المشرفة
On of the merits of Ali bin Abi Talib that became apparent at his birth was that he was born inside the Holy Ka’aba.
~Izalat al-Khafa an Khilafat al-Khulafa vol 4:343
9) Allamah Shihab al-Deen al-Alusi wrote :
وفى كون الأمير كرم الله وجهه ولد في البيت أمر مشهور في للدنيا وذكر في كتب الفريقين السنة والشيعة
The fact that Emir al-Mu’meenin was born inside the Ka’aba is a famously known in the world and is mentioned in both Sunni & Shia’a literature.

10) Hafidh Jalal ad-Deen al-Suyuti wrote :
وأخرج من طريق أبي حمزة الثمالي، عن علي بن الحسين، أن فاطمة بنت أسد ، ضربها الطّلق وهي تطوف بالبيت، ففتحت لها الكعبة، فولدت عليا في الكعبة.
It is narrated by Abu Hamza al-Thimali who narrated from Imam Ali Ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-Abideen that :
Fatimah Bint Asad was doing Tawaf while she was in labor and the door of the Ka’aba opened and she gave birth to Ali in it.

P.s : Anyways, This is not a virtue for Imam Ali but rather a virtue for Bayt-Allah that Maula e Qaynat was born in it.
