9) The report of al-Dinawari

1) Introduction

Weclome to our Blog! In this article, we will evince that the house of Sayyida Fatimah Bint Rasul-Allah ﷺ was attacked and burned on the command of Abu Bakr & Umar. In an article before we briefly discussed that the anger of Sayyida al-Zahra is the anger of Allah ﷻ and that Sayyida al-Zahra was angry at Abu Bakr & Umar until she was martyred, the link to which is below :

Further, We see in a narration that :

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: نَظَرَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلَى عَلِيٍّ وَفَاطِمَةَ وَالْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ، فَقَالَ: «أَنَا حَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حَارَبَكُمْ، وَسِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سَالَمَكُمْ

ِAbu Hurairah narrated that Rasul-Allah ﷺ looked at Imam Ali, Sayyida Fatimah, Imam al-Hasan & Imam al-Hussain and said : “Indeed I am at war with those who fights them and I am at peace with those who are at peace with them.”

~Mustadarak ala al-Sahihayn 4713

• Imam Haakim after quoting the Hadith said this Hadith is Hasan

• This Hadith proves whoever fights or threaten Sayyida al-Zahra is like they have challenged the Holy Prophet ﷺ and in another narration, it is proven that whoever angers Sayyida al-Zahra has taken the wrath of Allah ﷻ

2) Narration of Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ ﺑﺸﺮ , ﻧﺎ ﻋﺒﻴﺪ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺑﻦ ﻋﻤﺮ , ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﺯﻳﺪ ﺑﻦ ﺃﺳﻠﻢ , ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻴﻪ ﺃﺳﻠﻢ ﺃﻧﻪ ﺣﻴﻦ ﺑﻮﻳﻊ ﻷﺑﻲ ﺑﻜﺮ ﺑﻌﺪ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﻛﺎﻥ ﻋﻠﻲ ﻭاﻟﺰﺑﻴﺮ ﻳﺪﺧﻼﻥ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ ﺑﻨﺖ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﻓﻴﺸﺎﻭﺭﻭﻧﻬﺎ ﻭﻳﺮﺗﺠﻌﻮﻥ ﻓﻲ ﺃﻣﺮﻫﻢ , ﻓﻠﻤﺎ ﺑﻠﻎ ﺫﻟﻚ ﻋﻤﺮ ﺑﻦ اﻟﺨﻄﺎﺏ ﺧﺮﺝ ﺣﺘﻰ ﺩﺧﻞ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ ﻓﻘﺎﻝ: «ﻳﺎ ﺑﻨﺖ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ , §ﻭاﻟﻠﻪ ﻣﺎ ﻣﻦ ﺃﺣﺪ ﺃﺣﺐ ﺇﻟﻴﻨﺎ ﻣﻦ ﺃﺑﻴﻚ , ﻭﻣﺎ ﻣﻦ ﺃﺣﺪ ﺃﺣﺐ ﺇﻟﻴﻨﺎ ﺑﻌﺪ ﺃﺑﻴﻚ ﻣﻨﻚ , ﻭاﻳﻢ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻣﺎ ﺫاﻙ ﺑﻤﺎﻧﻌﻲ ﺇﻥ اﺟﺘﻤﻊ ﻫﺆﻻء اﻟﻨﻔﺮ ﻋﻨﺪﻙ ; ﺃﻥ ﺃﻣﺮﺗﻬﻢ ﺃﻥ ﻳﺤﺮﻕ ﻋﻠﻴﻬﻢ اﻟﺒﻴﺖ» , ﻗﺎﻝ: ﻓﻠﻤﺎ ﺧﺮﺝ ﻋﻤﺮ ﺟﺎءﻭﻫﺎ ﻓﻘﺎﻟﺖ: ﺗﻌﻠﻤﻮﻥ ﺃﻥ ﻋﻤﺮ ﻗﺪ ﺟﺎءﻧﻲ ﻭﻗﺪ ﺣﻠﻒ ﺑﺎﻟﻠﻪ ﻟﺌﻦ ﻋﺪﺗﻢ ﻟﻴﺤﺮﻗﻦ ﻋﻠﻴﻜﻢ اﻟﺒﻴﺖ ﻭاﻳﻢ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻟﻴﻤﻀﻴﻦ ﻟﻤﺎ ﺣﻠﻒ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ , ﻓﺎﻧﺼﺮﻓﻮا ﺭاﺷﺪﻳﻦ , ﻓﺮﻭا ﺭﺃﻳﻜﻢ ﻭﻻ ﺗﺮﺟﻌﻮا ﺇﻟﻲ , ﻓﺎﻧﺼﺮﻓﻮا ﻋﻨﻬﺎ ﻓﻠﻢ ﻳﺮﺟﻌﻮا ﺇﻟﻴﻬﺎ ﺣﺘﻰ ﺑﺎﻳﻌﻮا ﻷﺑﻲ ﺑﻜﺮ

Muhammad Ibn Bishr narrated from Ubayd-Allah Ibn Umar (from the progeny of Umar Ibn al-Khattab) who narrated from Zayd Ibn Aslam on the authority of his father Aslam :

When Abu Bakr was given allegiance after Rasul-Allah ﷺ, Ali & al-Zubayr used to consult and discuss the matter of Caliphate in the house of Fatimah Bint Rasul-Allah ﷺ, When this news reached to Umar Ibn al-Khattab, He went to Fatimah and said ‘O daughter of Rasul-Allah ﷺ I swear by Allah, nobody is more beloved to us than your father and after him, you, but I swear by Allah if they gather in your house, it will not stop me to burn the house down on them.

When Umar left, Fatimah said to them ‘Umar came to me and swore by Allah that if you gather in my house, he will burn the house on you. By Allah, He will do what he has swore so leave and do not return to me. So they left and did not return to her until they pledged to Abu Bakr.

~Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah vol 21:143-144

• Let us discuss the authenticity of this narration :

1) All of its narrator are the narrators of al-Bukhari & Muslim.

    2) The Muhaqqiq of the book – Sa’ad Ibn Nasir al-Shatri (Council member of Senior Ullema in Saudi Arabia) said the Sanad is Sahih.

    3) Muhadith Shah Wali-Allah Dehlvi wrote quoting this Hadith :

عن اسلم باسنادٍ صحيح علي شرط الشيخين

Narrated by Aslam with a Sahih Chain on the condition of Bukhari & Muslim.

    ~Izalat al-Khafa an Khilafat al-Khulafa vol 4:118

    4) Imam Haakim quoted half of the narration with the same chain and mentioned :

هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد على شرط الشيخين ولم يخرجاه

This Hadith is Sahih upon the condition of Bukhari & Muslim but they did not record it.

    ~Mustadarak ala al-Sahihayn 4736

    • Many more scholars classified this incident Sahih but the Nawasib say that this chain is Mursal (disconnected) as Aslam the one narrating it was not in Madinah when this incident took place, let us examine that :

    1) In Sahih al-Bukhari, the most authentic Hadith collection of Ahl al-Sunnah – Zayd Ibn Aslam narrates from his father Aslam who narrates from Rasul-Allah ﷺ directly

Malik Ibn Anas narrates from Zayd Ibn Aslam on the authority of his father that Rasul-Allah ﷺ was on night journey and with him was Umar Ibn al-Khattab.

      ~Sahih al-Bukhari 4833

      https://sunnah.com/bukhari:4833

      2) Aslam was Mukhdaram as Hafidh Ibn Hajr al-Asqalani mentioned :

ﺃﺳﻠﻢ اﻟﻌﺪﻭﻱ ﻣﻮﻟﻰ ﻋﻤﺮ ﺛﻘﺔ ﻣﺨﻀﺮﻡ

Aslam al-Adawi, Mawla Umar, Trustworthy – Mukhdaram.

      ~Taqrib al-Tahdheeb vol 1:76

      Who is a Mukhdaram? Allamah Abd-Allah al-Judi’a mentioned :

وهم التابعون الذين أدركوا الجاهلية والإسلام، لكنهم لم يثبت لهم شرف الصحبة…. فمراسيل هذه الطبقة تقرب من المتصل.

Mukhdaram are the Tabiun who lived during the pre-Islamic period and Islam, but they did not have the honor of companionship. The Mursal of this category is the closest to continuation (Mutassil) in chain.

      ~Tahreer Uloom al-Hadith page 929

This shows that the Mursal of Aslam, a Mukhdaram, is close to the level of a Mutassil one and can not be rejected. We further find Allamah al-Sakhawi writing :

خاتمة : المرسل مراتب : أعلاها : ما أرسله صحابي ثبت سماعه ، ثم صحابي له رؤية فقط ، ولم يثبت سماعه ، ثم المخضرم ، ثم المتقن ; كسعيد بن المسيب ، ويليها من كان يتحرى في شيوخه ; كالشعبي ومجاهد ، ودونها مراسيل من كان يأخذ عن كل أحد كالحسن .

The conclusion is, Mursal has category :

-The highest category – The Mursal of a companion whose hearing from the Prophet ﷺ is proven

      – Then those companion, who saw the Prophet ﷺ but hearing from Him isn’t proven.

      – Then al-Mukhdaram

      – Then the pious like Sa’eed Ibn al-Musayyib

      – Then those who were careful about their Shaykhs (from the Tabiun) like Shabee’ & Mujahid

      – and below them are those who took from anyone like al-Hasan al-Basri.

      ~Fath al-Mugeeth bi-Sharh al-Fiyah al-Hadith vol 1:194

      • Here al-Sakhawi mentioned the Mursal of the Mukhdaram are better than the Mursal of Sa’eed Ibn al-Musayyib while we show you that the Mursalat of Sa’eed Ibn al-Musayyib are Sahih :

ﺃﺧﺒﺮﻧﺎ اﻟﻘﺎﺿﻲ ﻃﺎﻫﺮ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﻠﻪ اﻟﻄﺒﺮﻱ، ﺃﻧﺎ ﺃﺑﻮ ﻃﺎﻫﺮ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﻤﺨﻠﺺ، ﺛﻨﺎ ﺃﺑﻮ ﺑﻜﺮ ﺃﺣﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺑﻦ ﺳﻴﻒ، ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ اﻟﻤﺰﻧﻲ ﻗﺎﻝ: ﻗﺎﻝ اﻟﺸﺎﻓﻌﻲ: «ﻭﺇﺭﺳﺎﻝ اﺑﻦ اﻟﻤﺴﻴﺐ ﻋﻨﺪﻧﺎ ﺣﺴﻦ»

Imam ash-Shafi’i said ‘The Irsal of Ibn al-Musayyib are Hasan to us.’

ﺃﺧﺒﺮﻧﺎ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ اﻟﺤﺴﻴﻦ اﻟﻘﻄﺎﻥ، ﺃﻧﺎ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺑﻦ ﺟﻌﻔﺮ، ﺛﻨﺎ ﻳﻌﻘﻮﺏ ﺑﻦ ﺳﻔﻴﺎﻥ، ﺣﺪﺛﻨﻲ اﻟﻔﻀﻞ ﺑﻦ ﺯﻳﺎﺩ , ﻗﺎﻝ: ﺳﻤﻌﺖ ﺃﺑﺎ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻳﻌﻨﻲ ﺃﺣﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ ﺣﻨﺒﻞ , ﻳﻘﻮﻝ: «ﻣﺮﺳﻼﺕ ﺳﻌﻴﺪ ﺑﻦ اﻟﻤﺴﻴﺐ ﺃﺻﺢ اﻟﻤﺮﺳﻼﺕ

Ahmad Ibn Hanbal said : ‘The Mursalat of Sa’eed Ibn al-Musayyib are the most authentic Mursalat.’

      ~al-Kifayah fee Ilm al-Riwayah page 404

      3) Narration of Hisham Ibn Ammar al-Sulami

ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﺳﻌﻴﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻳﺤﻴﻰ، ﺛﻨﺎ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ ﻋﻤﺮﻭ، ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﺳﻠﻤﺔ ﻗﺎﻝ…. ﻭﺩﺧﻞ ﻋﻠﻲ ﻭاﻟﺰﺑﻴﺮ ﺑﻴﺖ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ ﺑﻨﺖ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ ﷺ، ﻓﺠﺎء ﻋﻤﺮ ﻓﻘﺎﻝ: اﺧﺮﺟﻮا ﻟﻠﺒﻴﻌﺔ، ﻭاﻟﻠﻪ ﻟﺘﺨﺮﺟﻦ، ﺃﻭ ﻷﺣﺮﻗﻨﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻜﻢ

Sa’eed Ibn Yahya narrated from Muhammad Ibn Amr on the authority of Abu Salamah the son of Abd al-Rahman Ibn Awf who said :

“Ali & al-Zubayr entered the house of Fatimah Bint Rasul-Allah ﷺ so Umar came to them and said ‘Go and give your allegiance to Abu Bakr or else I will burn the house on you.'”

~Hadith Hisham Ibn Ammar page 122-124

      • This is brief of a longer narration

      • The Sanad is Sahih, All the narrators are the narrators of al-Bukhari and/or Muslim except to refute this incident the nawasib say : The chain is Mursal of Abu Salamah the son of Abd al-Rahman Ibn Awf but we will show the Mursal of Abu Salamah is accepted to the Prophet ﷺ and this incident is not even of the Prophet ﷺ but after Him ﷺ –

      Abu Haatim al-Raazi said :

ﻋﻦ ﻧﺎﻓﻊ، ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﺳﻠﻤﺔ : ﺃﻥ اﻟﻨﺒﻲ … ﻭﻫﺬا اﻟﺼﺤﻴﺢ

It was narrated by Nafee’ on the authority of Abu Salamah that the Prophet ﷺ… this is Sahih.

ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﺳﻠﻤﺔ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ؛ ﻗﺎﻝ: ﺭﺃﻯ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ ﺭﺟﻼ ﻳﺼﻠﻲ … ﻣﺮﺳﻞ ؛ ﻭﻫﺬا ﺃﺷﺒﻪ ﻭﺃﺻﺢ

Abu Salamah narrating that Rasul-Allah ﷺ saw a man praying……

This is Mursal and this (Hadith) is close and correct

      ﻭاﻟﺼﺤﻴﺢ: ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﺳﻠﻤﺔ ﻣﺮﺳﻼ

It is Sahih : The Mursalat of Abu Salamah

      ~Kitab al-Ilal vol 2:76 and 2:277

      Allamah Taqi ad-Deen al-Subki wrote :

The Mursal of Abu Salamah according to al-Shafi’i is Hasan.

      ~al-Ibhaj fee Sharh al-Minhaj vol 2:343

      4) Narration of Ansab al-Ashraf

      Allamah al-Baladhuri mentioned :

اﻟﻤﺪاﺋﻨﻲ، ﻋﻦ ﻣﺴﻠﻤﺔ ﺑﻦ ﻣﺤﺎﺭﺏ، ﻋﻦ ﺳﻠﻴﻤﺎﻥ اﻟﺘﻴﻤﻰ، ﻭﻋﻰ اﺑﻦ ﻋﻮﻥ ﺃﻥ ﺃﺑﺎ ﺑﻜﺮ ﺃﺭﺳﻞ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻋﻠﻲ ﻳﺮﻳﺪ اﻟﺒﻴﻌﺔ، ﻓﻠﻢ ﻳﺒﺎﻳﻊ. ﻓﺠﺎء ﻋﻤﺮ، ﻭﻣﻌﻪ ﻓﺘﻴﻠﺔ ﻓﺘﻠﻘﺘﻪ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﺒﺎﺏ، ﻓﻘﺎﻟﺖ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ:[ ﻳﺎ اﺑﻦ اﻟﺨﻄﺎﺏ، ﺃﺗﺮاﻙ ﻣﺤﺮﻗﺎ ﻋﻠﻲ ﺑﺎﺑﻲ؟ ﻗﺎﻝ: ﻧﻌﻢ، ﻭﺫﻟﻚ ﺃﻗﻮﻯ ﻓﻴﻤﺎ ﺟﺎء ﺑﻪ ﺃﺑﻮﻙ

al-Madaini narrates on the authority of Maslamah Ibn Muharib from Sulayman al-Tamimi to Ibn Awn :

Abu Bakr wanted Ali to pledge allegiance to him, but he did not do so. Then, Umar came with firewood to Fatimah’s door. Fatimah said ‘O son of Khattab, are you burning my door?’ He said ‘Yes, I am firm on the religion your father came with.’

      ~Ansab al-Ashraf vol 2:268

      • Again, The Nawasib report Irsal to this chain, Let us check who was Ibn Awn? Allamah adh-Dhabhi mentioned :

Abd-Allah Ibn Awn, The Imam, a role model, the scholar of Basrah.

Emir al-Mu’meenin of Hadith of the Sunnis – Abd-Allah Ibn al-Mubarak said ‘I have not seen anyone more superior than Ibn Awn.’

Shubah Ibn al-Hajjaj said : ‘If Ibn Awn doubts in narrating a narration, that’s more beloved to me to accept than the firmness in narrating of other.’

      ~ Siyar Alam an-Nubala vol 6:364-365

Shubah Ibn al-Hajjaj was so staunch against Tadlis & Irsal that he would :

عن شعبة يقول التدليس في الحديث أشد من الزنا

“Tadlis in narrations are worse than committing Zina.”

      ~al-Tamhid vol 1:207, Ibn Abd al-Barr.

      5) Narration of al-Maqdisi

      Allamah Diya ad-Deen al-Maqdisi wrote :

On the authority of Sa’eed Ibn Ufwayr who said Ulwan Ibn Dawood narrated to me that Saleh Ibn Kaysan narrated on the authority of Humayd Ibn Abd al-Rahman Ibn Awf from his father Abd al-Rahman Ibn Awf who said :

I visited Abu Bakr during his illness in which he died and Abu Bakr said ‘I do not regret anything except three things I did, I wish I did not do – I wish I did not enter the house Fatimah even if they were planning war against me, I wish on the day of Saqifah, I would’ve made Abu Ubayda or Umar the Caliph and I would be their minister.

      ~al-Ahadith al-Mukhtara vol 1:88-89

After quoting this Hadith, Diya ad-Deen al-Maqdisi said :

      وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ

      And this Hadith is Hasan.

      ~al-Ahadith al-Mukhtara vol 1:90

      6) Narration from Taarikh al-Tabari :

      Allamah Abu Ja’far at-Tabari mentioned :

ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ اﺑﻦ ﺣﻤﻴﺪ، ﻗﺎﻝ: ﺣﺪﺛﻨﺎ ﺟﺮﻳﺮ، ﻋﻦ ﻣﻐﻴﺮﺓ، ﻋﻦ ﺯﻳﺎﺩ ﺑﻦ ﻛﻠﻴﺐ، ﻗﺎﻝ: ﺃﺗﻰ ﻋﻤﺮ ﺑﻦ اﻟﺨﻄﺎﺏ ﻣﻨﺰﻝ ﻋﻠﻲ ﻭﻓﻴﻪ ﻃﻠﺤﺔ ﻭاﻟﺰﺑﻴﺮ ﻭﺭﺟﺎﻝ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻤﻬﺎﺟﺮﻳﻦ، ﻓﻘﺎﻝ: ﻭاﻟﻠﻪ ﻷﺣﺮﻗﻦ ﻋﻠﻴﻜﻢ ﺃﻭ ﻟﺘﺨﺮﺟﻦ ﺇﻟﻰ اﻟﺒﻴﻌﺔ ﻓﺨﺮﺝ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ اﻟﺰﺑﻴﺮ ﻣﺼﻠﺘﺎ ﺑﺎﻟﺴﻴﻒ، ﻓﻌﺜﺮ ﻓﺴﻘﻂ اﻟﺴﻴﻒ ﻣﻦ ﻳﺪﻩ، ﻓﻮﺛﺒﻮا ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻓﺎﺧﺬﻭﻩ

Narrated by Muhammad Ibn Humayd who narrated from Jareer who narrated from Mugheera on the authority of Ziyad Ibn Kulayb who said :

Umar Ibn al-Khattab went to the house of Ali, where Talha, Zubayr & some Muhajireen were present. Umar said ‘By Allah, I will burn you down unless you pledge allegiance to Abu Bakr.’

al-Zubayr came out to stop him but he stumbled and his sword fell and they jumped on him and seized him.

      ~Taarikh al-Tabari vol 3:202

      • Ahmad Ibn Hanbal said :

ﺃﻣﺎ ﺣﺪﻳﺜﻪ ﻋﻦ اﺑﻦ اﻟﻤﺒﺎﺭﻙ ﻭﺟﺮﻳﺮ ﻓﻬﻮ ﺻﺤﻴﺢ

The Hadith of Ibn Humayd from Ibn al-Mubarak and Jareer, those are Sahih.

      ~Taarikh Baghdad vol 2:255-256

      7) The incident as presented in al-Iqd

      Hafidh Ibn Abd Rabbih al-Andalusi (d.328 H) wrote :

اﻟﺬﻳﻦ ﺗﺨﻠﻔﻮا ﻋﻦ ﺑﻴﻌﺔ ﺃﺑﻲ ﺑﻜﺮ

Those who opposed the allegiance to Abu Bakr were Ali, al-Abbas, al-Zubayr, Sa’ad Ibn Ubadah. As for Ali, al-Abbas & al-Zubayr, they gathered in the house of Fatimah until Abu Bakr sent Umar Ibn al-Khattab to drive them out of the house and if they refused, fight them.

Then Umar came with a torch of fire to set on their house. Fatimah said ‘O son of Khattab, have you come to burn our house?’ He said : ‘Yes, until you agree with what the Ummah has agreed upon (i.e the allegiance to Abu Bakr)’

      ~al-Iqd al-Fareed vol 5:13

      • The book al-Iqd is an extensive work on historical events as Allamah Ibn Khallikan wrote

اﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺪ ﺭﺑﻪ…ﻛﺎﻥ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻌﻠﻤﺎء اﻟﻤﻜﺜﺮﻳﻦ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻤﺤﻔﻮﻇﺎﺕ ﻭاﻻﻃﻼﻉ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺃﺧﺒﺎﺭ اﻟﻨﺎﺱ، ﻭﺻﻨﻒ ﻛﺘﺎﺑﻪ ” اﻟﻌﻘﺪ ” ﻭﻫﻮ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻜﺘﺐ اﻟﻤﻤﺘﻌﺔ ﺣﻮﻯ ﻣﻦ ﻛﻞ ﺷﻲء

Ibn Abd Rabbih, He was amongst the scholar who used to own manuscripts and he was well versed about the reports of the people, his book ‘al-Iqd’ is very fascinating and contains everything.

      ~Wafayat al-Ayan vol 1:110

      8) From the historian, Abu al-Fida

      Abu al-Fida Malik al-Mu’ayyud wrote :

ﻓﺮﺟﻊ اﻟﻘﻮﻡ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻗﻮﻟﻪ ﻭﺑﺎﺩﺭﻭا ﺳﻘﻴﻔﺔ ﺑﻨﻲ ﺳﺎﻋﺪﺓ، ﻓﺒﺎﻳﻊ ﻋﻤﺮ ﺃﺑﺎ ﺑﻜﺮ ﺭﺿﻲ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻬﻤﺎ، ﻭاﻧﺜﺎﻝ اﻟﻨﺎﺱ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻳﺒﺎﻳﻌﻮﻧﻪ… ﺧﻼ ﺟﻤﺎﻋﺔ ﻣﻦ ﺑﻨﻲ ﻫﺎﺷﻢ ﻭاﻟﺰﺑﻴﺮ ﻭﻋﺘﺒﺔ ﺑﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻟﻬﺐ ﻭﺧﺎﻟﺪ ﺑﻦ ﺳﻌﻴﺪ اﺑﻦ اﻟﻌﺎﺹ ﻭاﻟﻤﻘﺪاﺩ ﺑﻦ ﻋﻤﺮﻭ ﻭﺳﻠﻤﺎﻥ اﻟﻔﺎﺭﺳﻲ ﻭﺃﺑﻲ ﺫﺭ ﻭﻋﻤﺎﺭ ﺑﻦ ﻳﺎﺳﺮ ﻭاﻟﺒﺮ ﺑﻦ ﻋﺎﺯﺏ ﻭﺃﺑﻲ ﺑﻦ ﻛﻌﺐ ﻭﻣﺎﻟﻮا ﻣﻊ ﻋﻠﻲ ﺑﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻃﺎﻟﺐ، ﻭﻗﺎﻝ ﻓﻲ ﺫﻟﻚ ﻋﺘﺒﺔ ﺑﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﻟﻬﺐ:

In the sheds of Saqeefah Bani Sa’idah Umar pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr and other people did too except a group from Bani Hashim, al-Zubayr, Utbah Ibn Abi Lahab, Khalid Ibn Sa’eed, al-Miqdad, Salman al-Farsi, Abu Dharr, Ammar Ibn Yasir, al-Baraa Ibn Azib, Ubayy Ibn Ka’ab, they were Ali Ibn Abi Talib and Utbah Ibn Abi Lahab would say :

I didn’t think that this matter (of Caliphate) would divert from the Hashimite, amongst them Abu Hasan (Ali), the first person to believe and precede, the most learned of the Qur’an & Sunnah.

… ﺛﻢ ﺇﻥ ﺃﺑﺎ ﺑﻜﺮ ﺑﻌﺚ ﻋﻤﺮ ﺑﻦ اﻟﺨﻄﺎﺏ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻋﻠﻲ ﻭﻣﻦ ﻣﻌﻪ ﻟﻳﺨﺮﺝﻫﻢ ﻣﻦ ﺑﻴﺖ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ ﺭﺿﻲ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻬﺎ، ﻭﻗﺎﻝ: ﺇﻥ ﺃﺑﻮا ﻋﻠﻴﻚ ﻓﻘﺎﺗﻠﻬﻢ. ﻓﺄﻗﺒﻞ ﻋﻤﺮ ﺑﺸﻲء ﻣﻦ ﻧﺎﺭ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺃﻥ ﻳﻀﺮﻡ اﻟﺪاﺭ، ﻓﻠﻘﻴﺘﻪ ﻓﺎﻃﻤﺔ ﺭﺿﻲ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻬﺎ ﻭﻗﺎﻟﺖ: ﺇﻟﻰ ﺃﻳﻦ ﻳﺎ اﺑﻦ اﻟﺨﻄﺎﺏ؟ ﺃﺟﺌﺖ ﻟﺘﺤﺮﻕ ﺩاﺭﻧﺎ؟ ﻗﺎﻝ: ﻧﻌﻢ، ﺃﻭ ﺗﺪﺧﻠﻮا ﻓﻴﻤﺎ ﺩﺧﻞ ﻓﻴﻪ اﻷﻣﺔ

Then Abu Bakr sent Umar Ibn al-Khattab to Ali & those with him to expel them from the house of Fatimah and Abu Bakr said ‘If they refuse to obey you then fight them.’ Hence Umar came with some fire to set the house on fire but Fatimah said ‘O son of Khattab, have you come to burn our house?’ He replied ‘Yes until you agree to what the Ummah has agreed upon.’

      ~al-Mukhtasar fee Akhbar al-Bashr vol 1:195

      9) The report of al-Dinawari

Allamah Ibn Qutaybah al-Dinawari mentioned :

Abu Bakr sent Umar to those who didn’t pledge allegiance to him, So Umar went to the house of Ali but they refused to come out then Umar called for firewood and said ‘By Allah, you must come out or I will burn it with everyone in it.’ So, it was said to him : O Abu Hafs, Fatimah is in the house. He replied ‘Even if she is in it.’

Thank you for reading! May Allah ﷻ curse those who angered Sayyidat Nisa’ al-Alamin, those who fought her and burnt her house and those who killed her and had enemity against her and those who do not place her at the rank where Allah ﷻ placed her.

      1. fatima salamulah aleh said to them , “leave my house other wise Umar will burn it .” If they would still gathered there for choosing calipha 3 ,then we used to quirl at this matter. No matter what is situation, this umah has already decided to fight against each other instead of enimies. You respectfully implied fatawah on Umar RA for anger of Allah . Is this right? Please, for God sake . Give back the authority of good and bad deeds result to the supreme power who is just all above. If Umar s deeds are vanished after saying this then think about our deeds . Are we following Islam as prophet pbuh ordered? Then note down any disobeyed act and try to imply same fatawah if you have courage.
