Welcome to our Blog! In this article, we will examine narrations that the son of Umar Ibn al-Khattab would break his fast through sexual intimacy.
1) Abu al-Qasim al-Tabarani narrated :
Muhammad Ibn Sireen said : Abd-Allah Ibn Umar would do Iftar by engaging in sexual intercourse.
~al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer lil-Tabarani vol 12:269
• Nur ad-Deen al-Haythami said The Sanad is Hasan (وإسناده حسن)

2) Allamah adh-Dhabhi mentioned :
Ibn Umar said : I have been given so much sex drive that I do not know that anyone else except Rasul-Allah ﷺ had it.
It was said that Ibn Umar would break his fast with sexual intercourse, the first thing.
~Siyar Alam an-Nubala vol 3:223

3) Abu Hamid al-Ghazzali mentioned :
It has been narrated about Ibn Umar, who was among the most ascetic and learned of the companions, that he would break his fast by sexual intercourse, even before eating, and it may be that he would engage in intercourse with his slaves thrice before the Isha prayer in the month of Ramadan.
~Ihya Uloom al-Deen vol 2:29

Whereas the Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt, Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, would like to engage in prayers after the Adhan, as Shaykh al-Ta’ifah Abu Ja’far al-Tusi narrated :
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir said : During the month of Ramadan, you pray first, then break your fast unless people are waiting for you to break their fasts with you. If you are with them, do not go against their wishes. Eat with them.
Otherwise, begin by praying. Zurarah asked ‘Why is that?’ He replied : Because two obligations have come to you – breaking the fast and praying, so begin with the better of the two, that is praying.
Then the Imam said : Pray while you are hungry so that your prayer is recorded and concluded with fasting, that is more beloved to me.
